The Ogden Trust National Schools Business Competition The Ogden Trust National Schools Business Competition is an annual event for sixth formers across the UK aimed at encouraging business thinking and entrepreneurship in schools. All the activity takes place in one day and it requires no pre-preparation and no teacher involvement. The competition is brought to you by the Enterprise Education Trust, The Ogden Trust and this year, we are happy to announce that the programme will also be part funded by the Bradford University School of Management, who will also be hosting the Northern Regional Final, in September. One of Europe's leading business schools, Bradford University School of Management provides comprehensive and innovative programmes of study at undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and executive levels. The regional heats take place after AS exams in June/July at host schools across the country, with the regional finals held at major business schools in late September and the National Final will take place in London in December. ![]() The concept of a competition designed to test and challenge the entrepreneurship of sixth form students, while broadening their business education, was devised in 2002 by the first holder of an Ogden Fellowship at Harvard University, Jon Rudoe and supported by the funding of Sir Peter Ogden, the founder of The Ogden Trust. Since it began in 2002 the competition has expanded each year, with over 200 schools now entering: click below on “Participating Schools” for the list. The competition requires innovative and strategic thinking allied with analytical skills, and the ability to work under time pressure. Schools enter teams of three first year sixth form students (Year 12), who have to construct a solution to a challenging and creative business problem and then present and defend it to an audience of their peers and members of the business community. The teams are then judged by a panel of business people on the feasibility of their ideas, their business plan, their financial plan, marketing proposals, use of data, presentation skills and their ability to think on their feet and answer questions. Two teams from each event go through to the next round.
